Astro Turf Trainers
If you play five-a-side or train on an older sand-based pitch, a pair of astro turf trainers will do you far more good than studded boots. We pull prices on TF boots from UK football retailers into one place, so you can see who has your pair cheapest before you buy.
Use the filters to narrow it down by brand, collection or price. Every pair below is a turf model, so you will not end up with the wrong soleplate.

What makes a trainer an astro trainer?
It comes down to the sole. Instead of studs, astro turf trainers have dozens of short rubber pimples spread across the bottom. That pattern grips short, hard artificial grass without catching, which is what you want on the carpet-style pitches used for most five and seven-a-side leagues. Retailers usually label them TF, short for turf.
Astro trainers or AG boots?
This is where most people get caught out. Newer 3G and 4G pitches have longer fibres with rubber crumb in them, and a pair of AG football boots with short conical studs usually suits those better. Older, flatter astro is TF territory. If you are not sure which you play on, our guide to FG, AG and SG boots explains how to tell the surfaces apart.
How much should I spend?
You can pick up decent club-level astro boots for under £50, and plenty of five-a-side regulars never need more. The Pro and Elite versions add lighter uppers and a closer fit, which is worth paying for if you play a couple of times a week. Prices on the same model often vary between shops, so it is worth a quick look across the comparison before you buy.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wear astro turf trainers on grass?
On dry, firm grass they will be fine for a kickabout. On soft or wet grass you will slip, so you would want FG or SG boots for that.
Are astro trainers allowed on 3G pitches?
Most 3G venues allow TF trainers, and some ban long studs, so they are often the safest choice when you do not know the pitch. Check with your venue if you are unsure.
Do astro trainers fit the same as boots?
They tend to fit very close to the same model's boot. Order your usual boot size and check the brand's own size guide on the retailer's page.
What is the difference between TF and IC?
TF trainers have a pimpled rubber sole for artificial turf. IC, or indoor court, shoes are flat-soled and made for sports halls, and they will slide all over astro.
