What surface do you mainly play on?

This helps us show you the right stud types for your pitches.

How to Choose Football Boots

Start with the surface you play on most — the soleplate matters more than anything else for grip and safety. Then think about fit: boots vary between brands and even between models from the same brand, so check the size guide and, if you can, try a pair on. Finally, set a budget. Mid-tier boots often share the upper design of top-tier models at a lower price.

Understanding Football Boot Stud Types

  • FG (Firm Ground): moulded studs for dry natural grass.
  • AG (Artificial Grass): shorter, more numerous studs designed for 3G/4G pitches.
  • SG (Soft Ground): longer, often metal-tipped studs for wet, muddy grass.
  • MG (Multi-Ground): soleplates the manufacturer approves for more than one surface.
  • TF (Turf): small rubber studs for hard astroturf.
  • IN / IC (Indoor): flat, non-marking soles for courts and futsal.

Can You Wear FG Boots on Artificial Grass?

Some manufacturers approve certain FG boots for artificial grass, but many don't — and using the wrong soleplate can affect grip and may void the warranty. That's why the Boot Finder only shows boots whose surface has been checked against the manufacturer's information.

Finding Boots for Wide or Narrow Feet

There's no rule that a whole brand fits wide or narrow. Fit depends on the specific model, its last and materials. Where we have verified fit information for a boot we use it; where we don't, we label the boot "fit not verified" rather than guess.
